Advent begins with a call to prepare ourselves for the birth of Christ.  Being prepared also means that we are readying ourselves.  We are not caught off guard. Imagine if Christmas morning came and you woke up suddenly realizing that you forgot to prepare! Imagine if you had no gifts, no food purchased and no plans were made. Of course you wouldn’t allow that to happen, but we do sometimes allow it to happen spiritually speaking. We often are not prepared to celebrate the birth of Christ within our hearts.

As Advent begins, reflect upon how ready you are for Jesus’ coming. Are you preparing for it with the same fervor that you prepare for Christmas through shopping, cooking, decorating, etc?  Are you looking forward to that day when He will return?  Are you preparing for the spiritual celebration of His birth?  Are you awake and attentive to the numerous ways that God speaks to you on a daily basis?

If you find that you are not as prepared for His return in glory as you’d like to be, make this Advent a time when you get your heart ready.  Commit to prayer, spiritual exercises, reflection and attentiveness to His gentle and glorious voice.  The first candle of Hope has been lit – our Hope for all of our Angels is that they start to prepare their hearts for the most amazing gift – Christ!

Just a reminder that there is a PD Day this Friday.  The school in addition to the extended day program will not be open.

We are excited to announce that we will be hosting an Early Years/Primary Christmas concert on Thursday December 19th.  The concert will take place in the gymnasium starting at 1:00pm.  There is no cost to attend but we ask that families contribute a canned good item to support the local food bank during the holiday season.  If you plan on attending the concert – please be reminded that we ask that you stay for the entire show.  It is challenging when guests get up to leave during the show while performances are taking place.  Thank you for your consideration and we look forward to seeing you there!  A special thank you to the staff that are devoting lots of extra time to support the concert – Mrs. Johnson, Ms. Staples, Mrs. Hall, Ms. Schwab and Mr. Syme along with lots of great student leaders!

Our Make a Change Committee is supporting our first annual Stocking for Seniors Project!  Over the next two weeks we will be collecting items for our neighbours at Fairview Mennonite Home in the hopes that it will bring some cheer this holiday season!  Please consider donating any of the following new items:

Toothpaste, Toothbrushes, Winter hats, Scarves, Mittens, Gloves, Socks with treads on bottom, Crossword Puzzle books, Soft Chocolate treats, Chapstick, Facial Tissue, Cookies, Candy.

Thank you for always being such a generous and caring school community!

We were able to acknowledge our Students of the Month for November!  The theme was Growth Mindset and these students exhibited qualities such as perseverance, understanding that mistakes are part of the learning and knowing the power of the word YET!  Congratulations Angels!  You will be rewarded with a pizza lunch with Mrs. Papp on December 13th!

We are so amazed at how well our Dance A Thon fundraiser went!  Students earned the following whole school rewards:  Gum Day, Hat/Hoodie Day and Extra Recess!  We will be rewarding students with all of these prizes on Friday December 13th!  It will be a fun day had by all!

We have been having so much fun in our learning commons over the lunch hour participating in our Maker Space Holiday Sessions.  Under the guidance of Mrs. Starr students in the Junior grades have been exploring various technologies such as spheros, microbits, makey makey and lego robotics.  They have also had the chance to build and create in our crafting corner.  Students are really enjoying the opportunity to be creative with no limits!  Just look at the smiles!
