STUDENT OF THE MONTH
We celebrated the theme of Authenticity and congratulated our students of the month this past week! The students that were chosen showed the trait of being truly authentic and were confident enough to be who they truly are. They will be awarded with a pizza lunch with the Principal this week! Way to go Angels!
NEW UMBRELLA THEME – PURPOSE!
All month students will be learning about the theme of Purpose. A special thanks to Mrs. Jacob and Mrs. DiDanieli’s class that shared with us how to live a life of purpose. Please take a look at the article below to see how you can help support your children with learning this very important life skill.
WHAT DOES 100 LOOK LIKE?
Our Early Years Team always knows how to have a great time celebrating the 100th day of school! Take a look at our staff and student really “dressing” for the part!
BLACK HISTORY MONTH
February 1 marks the beginning of Black History Month (also known as African Heritage month). Black History Month is a time to celebrate and highlight the best of Black history and culture, and to honour the historic leaders of Black communities, their accomplishments and their enduring fight for freedom.
It is also a time for all Canadians to reflect and educate ourselves on the history of Black enslavement, discrimination, bigotry and criminalization of people of African descent. All month long our students will hear prayers and stories of those achievements. We will be celebrating and reflecting on our diversity here at St. Michael School.
We have been very fortunate to be able to work with Mrs. Woodworth – our Child and Youth Care Worker over these last 2 years. The way she has connected with the students of St. Michael has been incredible. She is moving to a new position at Blessed Sacrament School and we want to wish her the very best on her new journey. We would like to welcome Mrs. Parsons to the role of Child and Youth Care Worker. She has incredible experience and will be a wonderful addition to our already amazing staff at St. Michael. She joins us starting on Monday February 10.
Mrs. Mawdsley has decided it is time to retire and it is so well deserved. She has been supporting our most vulnerable students for 16 years. She has shown such love and compassion to all she serves and will be greatly missed in our Angel Community. Her last day is Friday, February 14th. We will be welcoming Mrs. Long who will be joining our amazing Support Staff until the end of the year.
REPORT CARDS DISTRIBUTED ON THURSDAY FEBRUARY 13
Reports will be going home on Thursday. The report card will contain grades only (no written comments) as a result of the ongoing labour dispute. Please feel free to contact the teacher should you have any questions about the reports. They will be happy to meet and connect.
WORLD READ ALOUD DAY
On Wednesday Feb 5th, the whole school community participated in World Read Aloud Day. Each class at the same time chose a book to read aloud. We believe in listening to stories and how they build upon our fluency skills. This Read Aloud global initiative helped us achieve that! It was a wonderful way to start the day!
KISS AND DROP PARKING
Just a reminder that the Kiss and Drop Parking is for JK/SK parents ONLY. A visible tag must be on your windshield in order to use. All other drop offs must take place on Winterhalt Drive at the back of the school or Langs Drive at the front. PLEASE DO NOT ENTER THE FRONT PARKING LOT. We have many students walking and this is a hazard. Thank you for understanding.
