We want to wish all of our Angel Families a wonderful new year!  As we enter the 2020 year, please know that we will continue to provide a school environment that is filled with lots of growth opportunities embedded in faith for the students of St. Michael School!

CHRISTMAS CONCERT!

What an amazing Christmas Concert held the last week of school prior to the Christmas Break.  There was so much support from our parent community – it was hard to contain us all in the gym!  Special thanks to our Christmas Concert Staff Team in prepping the students for their fabulous stage performances – Mrs. Johnson, Ms. Staples, Ms. Schwab and Mrs. Hall.

MR. GIBSON’S FESTIVE FEAST!

A great time was had by all at the Festive Feast for the entire school community.  We all enjoyed a lunch of turkey, potatoes and all of the trimmings!  Our Student Leadership Team supported our younger students and helped to clean between sittings.  This event could not have happened without the support of our amazing Custodian Mr. Gibson and our amazing parent volunteers!  They were busy planning, decorating and cooking up a storm!  Thank you for all you do for our school community!

SPIRIT METER – WE REACHED A NEW LEVEL!

We have been working hard at practicing our Umbrella Skills together as a school community and I am pleased to announce that we have reached our second milestone with our Spirit Meter!  We will be participating in a whole school pajama day complete with hot chocolate and cookies on Friday Jan 10th!  Keep working toward your goals Angels!  The theme for the month of January is Authenticity!

JANUARY UMBRELLA THEME – AUTHENTICITY!

Take a look at the following ways you can promote the theme of Authenticity with your children at home.

Authenticity as “the truth of who you are.” Every day offers you the chance to share the story of who you are through the way you talk, walk, and interact with others. It takes courage and a whole lot of self-love to share your truth with the world because you are accepting both the rewards and consequences that come with that choice.

Here are 4 Steps to help teach kids About Authenticity:

1 – TAKE OFF YOUR MASKS

Ask your child, “What do you love about yourself?” After they respond, tell them what you love about them. Focus on their character and effort, NOT their skills or abilities.

2 – ACCEPT YOURSELF WHERE YOU ARE

Don’t try to make your journey your child’s journey. Allow them the space to fail safely and be there to comfort them. When failures happen ask them, “What can you learn from this experience?” Give them space to respond and then let them know that they are on the right path and that there is no “one right direction” to get where they want to go.

3 – SHARE YOUR VOICE

Talk with your kids and ask them social and political questions. Do not criticize them for their thoughts. Your value is in helping them learn how to back up their voice with supporting evidence on why they believe the way they do.

4– DEFEND THE TRUTH

3 ways you can be a role-model for the truth: 1) engage in safe, difficult conversations when necessary 2) demonstrate that it is okay to ask for what you want in a restaurant 3) Share your core values with your kids and help them explore theirs.
