Another amazing week here at St. Michael School!  This week saw us participate in the Terry Fox Run, our Junior Soccer Tournament, Intermediate Library visits and we were introduced to the Spirit Meter and our new Recess Cart!  We continue to shine and share our wonderful gifts with all those around us.  Our spirit is rising Angels!!

Orange shirt day is recognized annually on September 30th to remember the harm residential schools did to children of Indigenous decent. Students are encouraged to wear an orange shirt.  This day is a day to commemorate the residential school experience, to witness and honour the healing journey of the survivors and their families, and to commit to the ongoing process of reconciliation.   We are excited to see a school full of Orange tomorrow!

The day was filled with sunshine and smiles as we ran for Terry this past week.  Terry Fox would have been so proud of the commitment of our Angels as they ran and walked around the school and the larger community to show their support of this great Canadian hero!I am pleased to announce that as a school we raised $1220.00!  This is an incredible donation that is sure to support cancer research moving forward.  Thank you to our parent community for your generous support!

A special thank you goes out to our Junior Soccer Team who showed persistence and grit on the field against their competitors.  We are so proud of the way that you represented St. Michael School.  Congratulations on securing fourth place overall!  Way to go!

We have done an amazing job this past week practicing our fire drills.  Each drill we had we an improvement from the last.  We recognize the importance and will continue with our safety week!  This week students will be practicing lock down drills.  Safety is our top priority at St. Michael’s!

St. Michael’s Annual Fall Food Drive
Starting Monday October 7th the St. Michael’s Make a Change Team will be collecting canned goods and non-perishable items for our local St. Vincent de Paul Society.  The Make a Change Team (formerly our Social Justice Team) will be collecting food items for one week.  The last day to send in food items is Friday October 11th.
Our goal this year is to collect 600 items. With over 300 students in our school, that means if each student brings in 2 items, we will be well over our goal!  All items are welcome, especially the following:

  • Canned tuna, salmon, sardines,
  • Canned meat (ham, turkey, chicken and luncheon meat)
  • Pasta (macaroni & cheese, spaghetti and sidekicks)
  • Pasta sauce
  • Minute rice
  • Tins of beans
  • Jam, honey and peanut butter
  • Pancake mix & pancake syrup
  • Apple & tomato juice
  • Cranberry sauce
  • Hamburger helper
  • Baby food
  • Cereal-especially Rice Krispies and Corn Flakes
  • Shampoo, hand soap & toothpaste.

St. Michael is a very giving school and we know we can make a difference for others this Thanksgiving season.  Please give generously.  We would really appreciate it!

St. Michael is offering an afterschool Homework Club for students who may need some extra time to complete assignments, ask questions about a subject they may be struggling with or just work on school projects and/or assignments.  It takes place on Wednesday and Thursdays each week and it is absolutely free.  If your child is interested, please have them see either Mr. Radford or Mrs. Claessens. Its a great way to get caught up!
