Dear Parent(s) of the St. Michael School Community,
I am sending this Newswire to inform you of an incident that occurred in the afternoon hours on Tuesday, October 29, 2019. The school was informed of a concern regarding an incident at a railroad crossing that involved a charter bus that had transported some of our students on a field trip.
Upon hearing of the incident, the school contacted Student Transportation Services of Waterloo Region and they have followed up with a response:
“STSWR was made aware of the incident at the railroad crossing yesterday. We are investigating what circumstances caused the driver to stop this close to the railroad resulting in the crossing gate coming down on the bus. STSWR is also reviewing railroad crossing with all school bus companies to ensure safe practices are followed and students are safe.”
The safety of our students is always our top concern. We will continue to keep you informed of any new information should it be made available to us concerning this incident.
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me directly.
