Dear Parents and Families,

After three and a half years being part of St. Michael’s school community, I am writing to inform you of my plans to retire the end of January.   I am leaving education after thirty years in this career.  I am looking forward to trying new things in my retirement and growing in many other ways.  You may have already heard rumours to the effect, but I wanted to make an official announcement about my retirement.  My last day in the office will be Thursday, January 31, 2019.

I am excited about embarking on new adventures, but also feel sad to be leaving a vocation and school that has helped me become a matured and respected administrator.  Making a final commitment over the past month has allowed me to reflect on my time with Waterloo Catholic District School Board.  I have been extremely fortunate to work with many dedicated people – colleagues, staff, parents, community and most especially children.

I think we have worked well together.  My time in education has allowed me to celebrate many great moments – hellos and goodbyes, triumphs and challenges, highs and lows and I will take wonderful memories with me.  Families have taught me many valuable lessons which I hope to apply to the coming years – how to interact with kindness and wisdom: how to be flexible and compromise: how to be kind, warm and caring.  Wherever my future leads, I know I will hold the community of St. Michael’s very dear.  May I say it has been a pleasure partnering with families and staff that have made my time here memorable.

Thank you all.

Best Regards,

Karl K. Herod
