I hope you are enjoying a wonderful summer – there are still a couple of days to rest and relax before school starts up again! I also hope you are relaxed, recharged and ready to start a new school year. I am so delighted that you are part of our amazing learning community. I welcome and value your positive energy and dedication to excellence in education, and I look forward to working with you and your children.
All signs point to another incredible and productive school year. Our skilled and devoted staff is already planning and preparing for your child(ren). Our enthusiastic Mrs. Best is registering new families, ordering needed materials and updating student files all while putting her office back together after our renovation! Our hard working and conscientious custodians have spent the entire summer working alongside construction crews to ensure a safe and clean working environment for our Angels. We are indeed a joyous and caring community with the common goals of nurturing responsible, caring students and promoting high-level learning.
Each year brings positive change. This includes a few additions to our staff. We are delighted to welcome the following staff:
Arianne Schwab (Early Years LTO), Alyssa Comeau (Early Years LTO), Michelle Hall (Grade 1/2), George Syme (Grade 6 LTO), Patricia Staples (Planning Time), Judith Armstrong (French), Colleen O’Grady-Johnson (Planning Time), Susan Janzen (ECE), Kristen Byrne (ECE Extended Day) and Rosann Schmalz (Night time Custodian).
We are excited to welcome them to our amazing school community!
If you drove past the school or utilized our outdoor playing spaces this summer, you may have noticed numerous maintenance and construction projects. There have been many projects underway and our facilities team will continue to work on our school over the next few months. Please be patient as they work through the many school updates that will continue to take place. One of the updates is the installation of air conditioning! There have been units placed at the side of the school which impedes on our student walking lane beside the office. Please remind your children to be careful walking to and from school including the parking lot area of the school. We are looking at alternate options for the future in terms of walking lanes.
You will notice that some areas of the school are not finished. Both the Junior Hallway floor and the Primary Bathroom stalls will be completed closer to the end of October.
Finally, a construction project was completed that created more space in our Learning Commons. The Learning Commons will be up and running soon and we just love how the space has opened up for our students. We are so appreciative of the new accommodations.
A great deal of time, effort and thought has gone into the process of student placement for the 2019-2020 school year.
Careful consideration was given to input from staff and families as well as student learning styles. Classrooms have been balanced academically and socially. Our class lists are structured to provide equitable class sizes at each grade level. Moving students is difficult without causing imbalances and inequities.
Thank you so much for being positive with your child and helping him or her understand that it is impossible to place all students with a preferred best friend or teacher. ALL of our staff works hard to make school a positive experience for ALL students. St. Michael’s is eagerly looking forward to enriching your child’s life. Thank you for understanding that it can take a few weeks for a child to acclimate to a new grade, peer group and teacher.
First Day of School
School starts Tuesday September 3rd at 9:00, dismissal is at 3:30.
NOTE: All SK students start Wednesday September 4th 9:00. All JK students should have received your student information in the mail. If you have any questions please call the office on Tuesday September 3rd.
On the first day, Staff will be outside to greet the students. Staff will be wearing their vests and have a sign that indicates what grade they are teaching. Teachers will call students that are in their class and head to their classrooms for the day. Parents are not able to visit the classroom at this time as the learning will be starting right away. If you arrive late, you must go to the front of the school where you will be greeted by staff that will take your child to their appropriate classroom. This will help us to move along efficiently without having large groups of people in our front foyer. Please feel free to wish your child(ren) a happy first day of school on our school yard and then begin your day; we will have a lot of supervision to support and supervise the students. Thanks for your support.
We have had many registrations over the summer. If your child’s name is not called please proceed to the front of the school where they will be placed in a classroom at that time. With that being said, due to the number of registrations, there MAY be some class changes to accommodate the new student registrations.
Thank you to all who are helping prepare for the new school year. Your commitment to insuring that St. Michael remains a celebrated and successful school is awe-inspiring. I eagerly look forward to greeting students and families again. It remains an honor and privilege to serve as your principal. Please stop by and say hello. Together, I know we will make this school year one of growth and achievement for all children. We are truly “Called to Belong.”
