Happy Monday, Angel Families!

We hope that everyone is able to enjoy the beautiful, sunny weather (and that it is here to stay!). Here are some reminders and updates you might be interested in…

Congratulations to Our Grade 2 Communicants!

On Sunday, April 21, the Grade Two’s received the sacrament of First Holy Communion. We would like to thank all of the families, educators, and Father Markus for your spiritual guidance and care of our communicants. A special thank you to Mrs. Best, for all of your help with all of the organizing details, Edge Imaging for taking our group photo, and Mr. Fler for the lovely rosary holders that the students received as a symbol of this blessed sacrament.

Spring Weather

Weather can be unpredictable this time of year. Please be sure to check the forecast to be prepared for the day. This includes hats and sunscreen on hot and sunny days and coats when the weather will be cooler.

Please also remember to send a reusable water bottle daily. Thank you!

Track and Field

As part of their Physical Education program, our students in Grades 4 to 8 will have an opportunity to participate in our school Track and Field Meet, taking place at Saint Benedict Catholic Secondary School, on Monday, May 6th.  A letter and permission form have been sent home. Each student is asked to bring the form completed back to school. Thank you!

Earth Week

As we enter Earth Week, we will work to change the narrative from “I” to “We”, focusing on how we as a community can make our Earth sustainable for everyone. This requires us to sacri

fice convenience. We can make simple choices to do our part: bring a reusable water bottle to school, stop the use of single-use plastics, reduce, reuse, and recycle, walk or ride when you can, and reduce water consumption. We look forward to using this week to remind students of our commitment as Catholics to stewardship of this earth we share.

Bingo REWARDs: We NEED YOU!!!

Have you ever wondered where the BINGO reward money comes from? Well, it comes from volunteers in our school community who dedicate their time as volunteers at Cambridge Bingo and Gaming. The more we volunteer, the more funds our school raises!!! If you are interested in volunteering, please contact the office at St. Michael’s. WE NEED YOU!

Still not sure if you should volunteer? Check out these stats!

Did you know…

  • Charitable Gaming Proceeds raised at the Cambridge Bingo and Gaming Centre assist organizations with delivering their programs and services to the community.
  • During the 2023 Calendar Year, St. Michael Catholic Elementary School earned $15,181.84.
  • St. Michael Catholic Elementary School has earned a total of $46,458.76 from Charitable Gaming.
  • This year we have already used Bingo Funds to pay for Pottery-to-Go and Guelph Grotto Rock Climbing experiences. We look forward to our end of year trips that will be partially funded with Bingo funds!

Thank you to our Bingo volunteers. Without you, we wouldn’t be able to fund these amazing experiences!

Wednesday, April 24 is Administrative Assistant’s Day: Happy Administrative Assistant’s Day, Mrs. Best!

Mrs. Best, YOU are the face of our school.  The first smile that our students and families see when they come to us.  YOU are the medical expert, giving ice, providing tissues and paper towels, handing out medication and inhalers.  YOU are the mental health expert, calming bodies, minds, and hearts with ease.  YOU are the one that our students go to for everything they need; the one that all staff go to for everything they need; and the one that our Administrator goes to for everything she needs.  YOU are the one!

This Wednesday we recognize the sacrifices you make in your personal time, your family time and in your life for the good of the school.  We recognize the dedication you have to your community, and we recognize the challenges that you deal with – with ease.

This Wednesday we recognize YOU and the impact that you have on our world. You keep us all going!

Mrs. Best is clearly the BEST!!! We want to thank you for all that you do! You are the heart and soul of our school! Thank you, Mrs. Best!

Kiss and Drop Zone Reminders

**PLEASE REMEMBER THAT THE KISS AND DROP ZONE IS FOR EARLY YEARS (KINDERGARTEN) FAMILIES ONLY. VEHICLES MUST PRESENT THE ISSUED PARKING PASS TO USE THE KISS AND DROP. INCLEMENT WEATHER DOES NOT CHANGE THIS POLICY! THE KINDERGARTEN KISS AND DROP IS ONLY OPEN BEFORE SCHOOL HOURS. PLEASE REMEMBER THAT THE FRONT ENTRANCE AND EXIT ARE ONE WAY AT THE MOUTH OF THE DRIVEWAY! THANK YOU! ***

Please read the following information and follow our school’s drop off and pick up procedures that have been developed to keep your children, our students, safe. With the winter weather, our parking lot is often slippery. Please reduce your speed when entering the parking lot. Our staff and students appreciate your attention to safety!

Drive to 5 – St. Michael

We encourage students in Gr. 4 – 8 who live within 1.6 km (0.8 km for JK – Gr. 3 students) to walk to school.  Those who live further than 1.6 km (0.8 km JK – Gr. 3) are eligible for bussing. Parents who choose to drive their children to school may use our Drive to Five option (the ‘Kiss & Drop’ zone is for Early Years Families before school only).

Parents who choose to drive their children to school are asked to “Drive to Five”.  Please drop your child off a block or two away from the school (5 min. walk). Safe drop-off and pick-up locations include Winterhalt Ave., Langs Dr., and Langs Community Health Centre. You will avoid contributing to the congestion on Concession Rd. and the walk will do your child good – they will be much more alert to begin their day!

PLEASE DO NOT PULL INTO THE PARKING LOT AT THE END OF THE DAY. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY CONCERN AS ALL STUDENTS ARE EXCITING THE SCHOOL AT THIS TIME.

Grade 8 Mount Mary Retreat Reminder

We wish our Grade 8 Students and Educators all the best as they participate in their Mount Mary Spiritual Retreat this week (Wednesday-Friday). We hope that all the students (and educators) have a wonderful time!
